Health First then Any other Wealth, Real Wealth is Health (ONLY)

So finally I found my new Topic to write, something about. On April 7, 2023, was World Health Day. That day, I was thinking about Health and Wealth, and How one of India's Richest Investor left behind a heavy estate and died early, regretting about Ignoring his Health. Thereafter, few Imminent people in India, though pretty young, died. People are dying like how fruits fall from the trees on being ripe, but here people are not even maturing or getting old enough to die. After Covid Pandemic Erupted, People in India are dying of Heart Failures like falling pack of cards. This we know, because this is now on WhatsApp University, News and among the talk of People. Life has certainly changed since 2020. We even have fitness related group and we often talk and share about things related to Health. Health and staying fit is one of my favorite passion. I would like to special mention about my Brother Deepak Ghanshyam Agarwal, who has made Health and Fitness his career. I always dreamed of someone with whom I can talk deeply about these things. And god willing, I have got him, A couple of days ago, I was invited by him , in one of his Zoom Meetings (of-course on health and fitness), I must say, It was thoroughly Professional and they all had so much knowledge and wisdom like I have always dreamed about. 

That Day, my takeaway from that 1 hour long Zoom Meeting was things I should be doing. They stressed about bringing a change in our normal lifestyle so that we can enjoy/absorb the elements of Earth, fire , Air. They explained how Age Old Indian system, Way of living was already making use of so many things which connected us with the nature. The main thing is living as close to nature, which in turn affects our mood. Like, I wrote in their feedback that I will do Gardening (to absorb element of earth) , I will do sun bathing (to absorb element of fire- to absorb vital vitamins), I will get out of city limits and get close to nature like go to nearby forests like Barnawapara (where I have been few times and loved the time we spent there), I will use utensils made from Clay (Mitti ke Bartan Utensils made from Clay i.e. Earth element- In India since time immemorial we have been using utensils made from Clay, even till this date, and in small villages, people still use them. A major change we already implemented this year is we started keeping Water Jar (Ghada in Hindi- A Jar made from Clay- to keep water cool) instead of using refrigerator for cold water in summer. Another thing that strike my attention was watching the stars, and the sky and the clouds and the moon. We should watch these often.



 




Coming Back on the Topic: Today I want to tell about the Famous Kair/Ker Pickle from Rajasthan.

We have been consuming Kair/Ker since we were kids. I never knew this was India's most expensive vegetable/fruit. A WhatsApp message on Kair/ker stuck my attention, and I thought about sharing it further among my friends and fitness Group. And the result is- This Blog Post!! A group member Sureshine Govender asked me for a picture of a Bottle Label. 
It kind of gives a small feeling of Pride to see Kair/ker comes from Rajasthan. There are many ways in which we can consume Kair. My mom makes pickle and even Kair curry. But my personal favorite is eating it in Pickle Form.

Abstract : Capparis decidua (Forsk) Edgew commonly known as Kair, is an important nutritional and medicinal plant. It belongs to family Capparidaceae. The flower buds and immature green fruits are pickled, cooked and consumed as vegetables. The mature fruits, meanwhile, are consumed fresh. The fruits are rich in protein (8.6%) and vitamin C (7.8 mg/100 g of pulp by weight). The amount of sugar varies from 1.7 percent to 3.0 percent. The seeds contain 20.3 percent oil. Aside from economic uses, kair also have medicinal qualities. The immature fruits are used to cure the stomach problems especially constipation. The bark is used to cure coughs, asthma, ulcers, boils, vomiting, piles and all types of inflammations. Stem bark is also used for rheumatism and toothaches, including pyorrhea. Simultaneously, it will be valuable to evaluate utility potential of flower/fruits in cancer patients due to high content of spermidin containing alkaloids, which are implicated in tumorogenesis. The young shoots and leaves are used as antidote against poison and as a cure for joint problems. The oil from the seeds contain nitrogen and sulphur which is used to cure skin diseases. The present paper highlights nutritional and medicinal importance of the kair and unnoticed threatened status in their respective riches for sustainable use and long lasting conservation.

Meditation Why???

*Why Meditation is necessary?*

Please read below from Medical Angle. 

From the time of our birth till death the heart works continuously.

*Everyday the heart pumps 7000 litres of blood, of which 70% blood is pumped to the brain and the remaining 30%  to the rest of body.* 

The blood is pumped through veins/arteries which are about more than 70,000 km long.
The strength required to pump the blood up to 42 ft high and weight of 1 tonne is generated by the heart everyday through its work.

We take rest when we are tired but if the heart takes rests for 4-5 mins we will have to rest forever.

*How does the heart work so much efficiently and effectively?*

Heart works effectively because it follows a discipline. In normal conditions the heart takes 0.3 secs to contract (systole) and 0.5 secs to relax (diastole). So 0.3+0.5=0.8 secs are required by the heart to complete one beat (1 cardiac cycle).That means *in 1 min, the heart beats 72 times which is considered as normal heart beat.*

During the relaxing phase of 0.5 secs the impure blood travels through the lungs and becomes 100 % pure.

In some stressful conditions the body demands more blood in less time and in this situation the heart reduces the relaxing period of 0.5 secs to 0.4 secs.Thus in this case the heart beats 82 times in 1min and only 80% of blood gets purified.

On more and more demand the relaxing time is further reduced to 0.3 secs then only 60% of blood is purified.
Thus 20-40% of impure blood is pumped in the veins/ arteries.These impure components (cholesterol/lipid) gets deposited on the walls of arteries/ veins and thus the elastic nature of the veins and the arteries is lost. So they become plastic in nature.

After some time due to the above conditions the veins/arteries become rigid. Now if a blood clot travels through the veins/ arteries (which in normal conditions gets easily passed away due to the elastic nature earlier) gets blocked and resists blood flow in that area. This results in a blockage which further *results in Heart Attack.*

From the above discussion, we can easily realise that the main reason for the heart problems is the increase demand of blood by the brain and the body.
When the activity of brain is stimulated it demands more amount of blood than that of normal conditions.

*To stimulate the activity of brain 25-30% of diet we take is responsible whereas the remaining 70-75% is due to the thinking, emotions, attitude, memories and other processes of the brain.*

So, those who want to keep their heart working effectively for a long period of time they should protect themselves from  - worries, anger, sadness, emotions, sensitive behavior, stress and hurry. 

To protect ourselves from the above few things *there is no MEDICATION available!*
So, the only option is 
*MEDITATION*.

Wise Words From the Cancer Survivor

Dear All,

I am very sure we are the loving children of God and He is the one who is testing us so that we come out with flying colors. Please find some of the “dos” and “donts” in the trying period.

After Surgery

What I have observed is during this period “Pranayam” (the Art of Living style) is the most suited specially for BrC. The most effective cure without any medicines and side effects. If possible, do it throughout your treatment period and even after that.

1) try to raise your hands as much as you can, but do not exert yourself.

2) 3 simple exercises prescribed by my doctor –

     (a) take your arms sideways and shake your arms like a bird flying in the sky

     (b) take your hands above your head trying to touch the arms to your ears and                  do the namaste pose. Do this with your back to the wall – start while sitting and             then standing.

     (c) Keep the palms of hands on the wall with your face to the wall and then                         crawl your fingers up the wall – slowly and then as high as you can go. With                  this, the sutured portion in the arm will be loosened. Do the execises                            slowly, starting with 5 times and then increasing after 3 days to 7 times upto 20            times, 3 times a day.

3) Right from day one, increase your intake of liquids – water, buttermilk (2 spoons of curds and remaining water in a 1 litre vessel), soups of various pumpkin fruits (all gourds, orange variety pumpkin, yellow variety pumpkin), etc.



After Chemotherapy

This is the part where you have to have immense faith in god and belief in your strong will power. There would be pain but definitely I will give you the tips how to reverse that pain to pleasure (ofcourse out of my own experience) -

1) Generally the chemotherapy lasts from 5-8 hours (for me it was 13 hours since my vein was thin).

2) Please drink lots of water and liquids before the chemo procedure is started so that the toxic / excess medicines are flushed out by way of urine.

3) A standard chemo is of 6 cycles, every 6 weeks. Sometimes, there is also a cycle every 1 week. It probably depends on the intensity of the ailment, age of the person and other factors.

4) Body temperature shoots up after every chemo due to the medicine which kills the good blood cells as well as bad. I would suggest the following –

(a) Drink lots of liquids.

(b) Keep drinking buttermilk as much as possible with salt and chaas masala.

(c) Use “Dudhi” oil on your feet soles and the “head” to cool the whole system. Use it on your eyelids also. It is available at any normal medical store.

(d) Use “Ice Box” which we get at the medical store. Put the Ice Box in a duppatta and tie the duppatta around your stomach till you find that the ice has become water (it takes about 15 mins).

(e) You may face severe constipation leading to piles many a times. Buttermilk has a very soothing effect on this. Doctors generally advise, to take laxative “Cremaffin” which will work at the beginning but then the body gets used to it.

(f)Similarly, for burning sensation and acidity doctors advice “Gelusil” a replacement for which is the himalaya drug “Himcocid” having no side effects. You can take it throughout your treatment period.

5) One mantra to increase the blood count is to take hot sizzling soup atleast 3 times a day – 3 leaves spinach, ½ piece of tomato, ½ piece of beet, ½ piece of carrot. This you can continue for years together even afterwards.

6) Haldi (Turmeric Powder) has positive effects on this process. Drink a glass of warm milk to lots of haldi at night. Use more haldi in your cooking.

7) As after effects of chemo, the immune system of the body comes down. Weather change or even if your neighbour sneezes, you are prone to get cold. It is advisable to skip all public places viz. market area, malls, movie theatres etc. Further, to strengthen your immune system, himalaya tablets “Septilin” one tablet per day.

8) Use slippers so that you do not catch cold. In case of cold, you can rub “Vicks” on your feet soles and wear socks. Next day itself you will be rid of cold. This can be done for kids as well as older people.

9)  Now for a slightly tough part. I am sure you will be convinced after I tell you my experience. Generally, after the second chemo, hair starts falling off which increases with every chemo. I had shaved off my hair after the 2nd chemo and again after the 6th chemo. You will find nausea when you see hair fall in your plate or food or milk etc. So better do away with it with a happier heart, coz, it will all grow back more healthier afterwards. The reason for shaving again after 6th chemo is that all the toxins are flushed out from urine and the pores of the body by way of sweat etc. When you scratch your scalp, you will find black tar like substance on the scalp. That is the toxins given out by your scalp. The hair will not be healthy if you keep it that way. So shave off your hair again, rub it with oil everyday (you will find cotton turning black), use a mild shampoo (baby shampoo) and then you will get your lovely long black hair again.

10)     Now for the tips –
(a)    Read lot of books – whatever you like and whatever will make you laugh.
I would recommend – Louise Hay’s “You can heal your Life”
                                    Rhonda Byrne’s “Magic” and “Secret”
                                    Archies and Tinkles
(b)   Play games – specially, Sudoku, Scrabble, Snakes and Ladders – it will make you use your brain much more efficiently then at other times – keep a time schedule of 1 hour everyday for this without fail.
(c)    Hear lots of music – whatever you like – hear loud not on earphones.
(d)   Think of the chemo red liquid being injected into your body, not as the deadly medicine but as “rose water” or “juice of life” which is going to heal and cleanse your body of all ailments.
(e)    Positive thinking helps a lot in bearing the pain



Radiation


After the chemo, one is wary about the treatment, but but don’t lose heart….. Angels are just nearby. Each human has 2 angels, just like we have best friends, only very few know about it. Only they will approach on your calling. They are around you, waiting to be called by you for help, guidance, protection and also for shopping. You can try this anytime when u wait for a bus, want to find out your lovely dress at a shopping mall, etc. Please read the book “Angel Therapy” by Doreen Virtue.
The main reason why I have written this is to tell you, now is the time you must call for help (starting from chemo stage).
1)      If the breast is removed fully, radiation is given for 5 weeks.
2)      But if the breast has been saved, the normal dosage is 6 weeks, generally 1-3 minutes at the site of the CA. With the latest machines and the best radiation doctors, you wont feel any pain. You wouldn’t know when you are on the table and when you are out.
3)      During this time, it is advisable to take a front buttoned maxi (since you have to change during radiation) or a front buttoned blouse if you are wearing a saree. Preferably, always wear cotton clothes only.
4)      During this time, it is advisable to keep on doing the exercises with a slow pace, since the tendon and muscles are burnt (think of the tandoori effect) and need to be flexed slowly so that they do not become tight due to radiation. 
5)      Last but not the least, the tip - be happy, laugh a lot, sometimes take a small piece of cake or flowers for your radiation doctor (my doctor in on my facebook – my sons age) or even some namkeen to distribute among the patients whom you see everyday. The happiness you see on their faces makes you heal faster and lessens the pain.


Post Treatment

1)      Sympathy is the last thing that should be on one’s mind. Deck up (dress, flowers, jewellery, etc – we are lucky to be ladies) as if everyday is a b’day, live n enjoy every moment of life as you live only once and laugh lots. That’s the key to healthy life. Blessings is found to be more healing than sympathy.
2)      Start your day with pranayam. If you have read “magic” start the day with “thank you” and make it a point to say “thank you” at the smallest help / care you get from anybody.
3)      Please intake lots of soup, juices, fresh vegetables everyday. Tomatoes, Broccoli, gourds of various varieties as vegetables and halwas, carrots, kidney beans, beans in other forms, etc. Remember that all yellow & orange colour fruits and vegetables should be given top most priority.
4)      Handful of sprouted moong in the form of soup, vegetable, even boiled as in “pani puri” to be had everyday.
5)      Lemon is supposed to have healing properties – slice a piece of lemon and put in a glass of water for 4-5 hours – drink the water. You can do it as many times you want it.
6)      For nausea, just chew on ginger and little salt. It will give you immediate relief.
7)      Sometimes, you are not able to close the fist of your palms due to chemo, so slowly everyday basis, 10 times do the palm closing exercise (3 times a day).
8)      I have done some reading on alternate therapy and found many sites which are useful – kindly check www.men-tsee-khang.org and this full fledged hospital is at Koparkhairane. You will go thro’ some miraculous alternate therapies on the net. You can visit the hospital too since the doctor, checks only your pulse and suggests medicines made of fruits and barks of trees.
9)      Milk with haldi (Turmeric) to be had regularly. Prepare food with haldi.
10)  It is observed that tendency to put on weight increases 10-fold. So, brisk walking for 45 minutes is a must (which frankly I am not able to do).
11)  You can have vitamins & calcium two times in a week, if need be.
12)  In case of piles problem, sit in a plate of water, as hot as much you can bear. Buttermilk is the only solution for that. Due to medicines the body temperature will be high and heat automatically generated. Keep the Ice-Box & Oil therapy on.
13)  With all the chemo your hormones go in for a toss and fatigue, restlessness, sometimes lymphodema (swelling in arms), weight gain are the side effects. I visited a naturopathist in Vile Parle – Dr. Mamta Trivedi (who is available at Mumbai Prabhadevi, Opera House and Breach Candy also), who is a obesity and diabetes specialist. She has suggested a juice made out of tulsi, neem, pudina, ginger, amla, honey, bel, etc. which I have been taking for past 5 yrs now. It helps build your immune system and you feel revitalized.
14)  The sugar levels also soar – for that you can have 1/3 of karela (bitter gourd), same quantity of tomato, same quantity of kakdi and some coriander leaves – mix in mixer and drink it (preferably without sieving). Coriander has the properties to flush the toxins from kidney and keeps your liver healthy which deteo
15)  By now your hispathology reports would have come (ER/PR/HER2) which will tell you if you can take the hormone therapy after radiation is over. For me all the three i.e. ERPRHER2 was negative, I was not supposed to take the hormone treatment. If any of the above is +ve then 1 tablet per day (hormone therapy) of a certain medicine is prescribed by the doctor.

16)  I will write some shlokas for healing faster. Do keep faith and chant them (108 times) :

(a)               Dhanvantari Mantra –

Vasudevaya Dhanvantaraye,     Amrutha Kalasa Hasthaaya

DRINK WATER ON EMPTY STOMACH


It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests have proven its value. We publish below a description of use of water for our readers. For old and serious diseases as well as modern illnesses the water treatment had been found successful by a Japanese medical society as a 100% cure for the following diseases:
Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, fast heart beat, epilepsy, excess fatness, bronchitis asthma, TB, meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases, womb, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear nose and throat diseases.

It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.
Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine.
Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks:
· Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting,
· Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.
· You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack.
· Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.
· 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.
· Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive...

Ayurvedic approach to "Indigestion"

The word "Indigestion" is commonly used to describe the discomfort in one's belly mostly caused after food consumption. Fullness, bloating, nausea, heart burn are other symptoms of Indigestion.


Before discussing Indigestion, understanding the process of digestion is very essential. The Ayurveda approach of explaining digestion is very simple and effective. The food we eat is digested by Agni or body fire which is present in our body. It is very much similar to the way we cook the food. The Agni or body fire helps to digest the food which is consumed, much like the fire of a stove cooks the food kept on it. The Agni is mainly situated in Jatara or in upper part of digestive system and is called as Jataragni. The Agni is further categorized as Bhootagni (which digests the 5 pancha mahabhoota factors present in food), Dhatwagni (The agni present in tissues which help them to absorb required nutrients), Malagni ( the agni which helps in formation of body wastes like stools, sweat and urine) . The Jataragni controls bhootagni, dhatwagni and malagni. Through this it is evident that ayurveda approach of digestion explains cellular metabolism too.


The factors which help agni to digest the food completely : Thridoshas -Vata , Pitta and Kapha help agni to digest the food. 
If the process of digestion is compared to that of cooking rice, the stomach,like the vessel., receives food. Vata provides the necessary conditions like the air blower, Pitta acts like the stove, providing optimum working conditions while Kapha provides the moisture needed much like the water in the vessel. When all these factors are normal and well balanced, an optimum condition is created to digest the food completely.
When food is completely digested by all the agnis, the body tissues will be well nourished and one is blessed with attractive complexion, glow, longevity, strength, good health, growth, enthusiasm, vitality and overall healthy development of body and mind.


The indigestion occurs when agni is imbalanced by the factors (tridoshas) which help agni to digest food. The variations of agni due to tridoshas are of 4 types.
Samagni (balanced agni) :The agni which is well balanced due to balanced tridoshas indicate the condition called Samagni . Samagni digests the food completely and nourishes the body tissues very well.


Vishamaagni (varying agni):- When vata is predominant this condition surfaces. The regular food gets digested normally on some occasions and poorly on others. Vata increasing foods and lifestyles lead to this condition. This variation of agni causes constipation, flatulence, pain in abdomen and other vata predominant diseases. The indigestion caused by this type of agni is called Vistabdhajeerna

Teekshnagni (increased agni) : This variation of agni occurs due to predominance of pitta. Pitta increasing foods and lifestyle cause this variation. This variation of agni causes increased hunger, thirst, acidity, heart burn and loose motions. The indigestion thus caused is called as Vidagdajeerna.


Mandagni (decreased agni): As increased moistness reduces the intensity of fire, the increased kapha reduces the intensity of agni. Kapha increasing foods and lifestyle cause this variation. Feeling Heaviness of body, swelling of eyelids (lower), belching which emit the smell of food consumed and water brash are few symptoms which of indigestion caused by mandagni. The indigestion caused by mandagni is called as amajeerna.
The decreased agni improperly digests the food and this indigested food is sticky in nature and improperly nourishes tissues, causing weakness of body. This sticky improperly digested food is called ama. Ama due to its sticky nature blocks the channels of body, vitiate doshas , contaminates tissues, imbalance body functions and cause diseases.
Causes of imbalance of agni which lead to indigestion
  1. Spicy foods, chilly, oily foods, medicines, milk and milk products, tobacco and alcohol.
  2. Irregular food habits and sleeping patterns.
  3. Medications like pain killers, antibiotics, oral contraceptives and steroids.
  4. Intestinal parasites.
  5. Diseases of pancreas, liver, gall bladder, intestinal infections etc.
  6. During pregnancy, premenstrual period, menopausal period in women.
  7. Emotional upset like anxiety, stress, examination, family tensions, etc.
Home Remedies for Indigestion
  1. Fasting completely for one day helps to normalize imbalanced agni and digest ama.
  2. Consuming liquid foods, boiled vegetables or fruit juices for 2- 3 days also improves agni and relieves indigestion.
  3. Avoid the factors (mentioned above) which cause indigestion.
  4. Mix a ½ tea spoon of lemon juice, ½ tea spoon ginger juice and little salt in a cup of water and consume thrice daily.
  5. Drinking ½ glass of warm water once in 2 hours increases agni and digests ama.
  6. Cook ½ cup of rice with 4 cups of water with crushed ginger (1") and salt. Powder long pepper (2 or 3)and fry it in a spoon of cow's ghee and add it to gruel. Consume this when it hot. This is very light to digest and relieves colic pain.
  7. Abdominal Massage also helps to relieve indigestion. It loosens the tight muscles and increases the blood supply to digestive system. American Journal of aphysical medicine and rehabilitation mentions that "Abdominal massage has positive effects on some clinical aspects of neurogenic bowel dysfunction in patients with spinal cord injury. "
Consuming well balanced food which keeps doshas and agni in balanced condition always keeps body healthy and free from diseases.
